Silent Birth

Lots of speculation about Katie Holmes and the upcoming birth of her baby in the media.

I can add a view on this.

My friend who is also a Scientologist has had 3 kids. She has been concerned about all the hype in the media, claiming there is something odd or strange about Scientology birth practices, when there is really nothing that unusual at all. For example, she had the first baby with an epidural. As a Scientologist she knew it was important to keep conversation to a minimum, but that didn't prevent her getting the care she needed. She feels that what she has been reading in the media gives people a totally distorted view of what mothers who are Scientologists do.

What you learn when you read Dianetics: the Modern Science of Mental Health is that things said someone is experiencing pain can cause them a great deal of trouble in future years. Fortunately Dianetics can also reverse any problems this causes, but not talking when someone is in pain or is unconscious is a sensible preventative measure.

To really understand this issue fully, people should just read what L. Ron Hubbard says in the book Dianetics The Modern Science of Mental Health by L. Ron Hubbard. That is where all this speculation is put to rest. It's also a fascinating book and gives tremendous insight into why people act and feel the way they do.
